Teen entrepreneur, and one of Local First Springfield’s newest members, Aaliyah Kissick, opened her specialty resale store, AK Boutique, at White Oaks Mall this week.
Aaliyah said her venture was made possible thanks to a shift in consumer demand for resale clothing and extensive community support. “AK Boutique is an upscale resale destination dedicated to a tidy, atmospheric retail experience, meaningful relationships
with customers, and conscious and ethical consumption,” said Aaliyah.
On opening day, Wednesday, January 1, 2020, 203 unique shoppers passed through the doors of the new store at White Oaks Mall. “Two months ago, I never would have dreamed I would have stats like that in one day,” said Aaliyah. “Shoot for the moon. If things don’t go as planned, you’ll reach the stars.”
The 19-year-old started her business with 50 dollars, a cell phone camera, a Facebook page, and a bin of excellent-condition, pre-loved clothes at 16 years old. During the past three years, Aaliyah scaled her business to encompass a brick-and-mortar location in Athens, Illinois and a loyal audience throughout Central Illinois.
AK Boutique at White Oaks Mall has four employees and is open Wednesday to Sunday from 12 pm to 8 pm.
